Analysis of a Digipak

Digipak's are CD packaging that can flip open, in sections of 3. There is one portion that opens up to the left, one to the right and then the center part. Attached to the center one there is normally a plastic case or cardboard part to hold the CD of the digipak.

For inspiration for my Digipak, I looked at Rihannas digipak for her album 'Loud'.
She has a theme of red and white colours, combined with red roses. She is laying across the roses, exploring her femine yet sexual side as you can see a lot of skin and the way she is laying.
The colour red connotates a lustful yet dangerous theme which can be seen through the red hair she has, the red lipstick and the roses.

Pictures of us filming.

This is pictures of us filming on day one. We took it in turns to film and due to our group splitting before, we feel we brought it together very well at the end and worked hard to ensure we got a good end result.

Footage of us filming

This is footage of us filming Jester. When filming he was very confident and this shows his excellent performance.

The UNIT - Previous music video

Jester is in a group called 'The Unit'. In the Summer of 2011, London was hit with massive riots all over the city; The Unit produced a video that now has over 31,000 views, portraying the events of the riots, from various views. Not only do they create videos with their own lyrics, they produced the video in order to show how they felt about the riots and the issues that needed to be raised about it.

The video shows how Jester is very confident and can perform in public with confidence. This influeced our decision in sticking with a rap genre as we knew he'd be good on camera and has had experience. Not only does he know how to write his own lyrics, he knew how to perform in the music video we did of '12 rounds' and helped us with the filming as he knew what would look good.

Filming Day 1

The filming of our music video was not planned as much as we could. Due to the change in our intial ideas, we wanted to get the filming done as soon as possible so we filmed without many storyboards and improvised as best as we could. We knew the locations we were going to beforehand and knew what we wanted the footage to look like, yet I think with more planning and storyboards our footage would have been better.

When filming, we took into consideration that the weather was going to be very different the next day so we got as much as we could done. We filmed at three different locations on the first day of filming. Jester rapped through the song for us various times in order to help us have a range of shoots; moreover he also rapped it out loud and did not mime which created a better sense of realism in the video.

Casting discussions

As our group split then re joined again, we had difficulty in deciding who to have in our performance. When we decided to change our genre of music to rap, we thought that Jester ( Shaq ) would be a good performer due to him having experience and not being camera shy, thus making our music video realistic and more professional. He fitted the category we were looking for as he a young male performer, and that is mainly what you see in the rap genre these days.

When casting for the Bombay Bicycle Club music video before we changed our initial ideas, we needed  performers of an indie genre and had the perfect couple. Yet a week before our filming they split up leading to neither of them willing to let us film them together. The difficulties we faced when our group split up made our group stronger in a way as we knew we had to work together as hard as we could to get a good end result as we did not have much time left.

Questionnaire results

When researching our initial ideas, we wanted to know what type of music video would appeal to an audience of our age. We were aiming to make the video for young people from the ages of 16-19. I asked people what type of genre of music they would like and these are the results I came across.
